Inside Our Cabinet of Curiosities: How We Choose What Belongs in Dugazon

At Dugazon, we often say the shop is a modern-day cabinet of curiosities, a space shaped by instinct, memory, and the quiet joy of discovering something you didn’t expect to find. It’s an ever-evolving mix of the found, the familiar, and the completely unexpected. But more than anything, it’s a place where curiosity is rewarded.

We’ve always been drawn to objects that tell a story. Things with a past, or at least a feeling, a texture, a warmth, a sense that they’ve lived somewhere before landing in our hands. Some pieces come from estate sales, others from a moment while traveling, or simply from something that catches our eye when we’re not looking for anything at all. Inspiration rarely arrives loudly; it appears in the quiet moments, wandering through a market, talking with someone passionate about what they make, watching a friend cook dinner in their home.

Estate sales hold their own kind of magic, you step through the door, and it feels like opening a jewel box filled with memories. Rooms layered with the things people loved enough to keep close. We always move slowly in these spaces, letting our eyes settle on what speaks to us. A serving piece that feels familiar. A linen softened by years of use. Something unexpected that feels both old and entirely new at the same time. Those finds often shape the soul of the shop.

Travel plays a role too. We bring home objects the way others bring home stories. A color, a scent, a bowl found on a dusty shelf, small things that somehow shift the way we see the world. Those impressions often become the starting point for what you find inside Dugazon. But no matter where a piece comes from, it only belongs here if it feels right, if it enhances the way someone lives, cooks, or welcomes others into their home. We ask ourselves:

Does this make life a little more beautiful? Does it spark curiosity? Does it carry a story? Does it offer a touch of lagniappe, that extra bit of warmth or generosity we’re always drawn to?If the answer is yes, then it earns its place on our shelves.

Our cabinet of curiosities is never finished. It grows and shifts with us, guided by taste, heritage, and the simple pleasure of finding something special when you least expect it. We hope that when you visit, you feel that same sense of discovery. That something catches your eye, that you pause, pick it up, and think, this is exactly what I didn’t know I needed.

That is the heart of Dugazon, a place where discovery lives, where every piece has a purpose, and where the familiar and the unexpected meet with ease.
