The Heritage Threads That Shape Dugazon

Dugazon began with a name, one that has lived in Bobby’s family for generations and traveled farther than most people ever do. It moved from France to the Caribbean, and eventually found a home in New Orleans, where his great-great-grandparents settled and built a life centered around food, family, and open-door hospitality.

We keep a photograph of their arrival certificate, a piece of paper that somehow carries an entire world inside it. Whenever we look at it, we’re reminded of the journey that shaped us long before Dugazon existed. It’s a grounding point, something that gently says: This is where you come from.

New Orleans is stitched into everything we do. It’s in the way we think about hosting, in the meals that stretch long into the evening, in the comfort of things that feel familiar and lived-in. Bobby grew up surrounded by that spirit, tables crowded with food, neighbors dropping by, the warmth of a home that never felt too precious to enjoy. Even the old Dugazon china, the pattern his family used for decades, still inspires us, for the memories it holds, holidays, stories, small everyday moments that somehow stay with you.

This is the feeling we try to bring into the shop. When we choose items for Dugazon, we think about heritage as something alive, something that should be used, touched, shared, and folded naturally into daily life. A linen that gets softer with every wash. A candle you light not for guests, but for yourself on a quiet evening. A bowl that invites you to make a simple soup. Pieces that don’t just decorate a home, but make it feel like yours.

Our curation is shaped by those threads: French roots, Caribbean influence, and the easy generosity of New Orleans. It’s the way we live, and the way we hope people feel when they step through our door. Welcome. Comfortable. Curious.

We love pairing something with history, a found object, a vintage silver piece, a cookbook with notes in the margins, with something new that sparks inspiration. Homes evolve, they gather stories, they pick up pieces along the way; Dugazon is simply an extension of that idea.

As we continue to grow, we hold onto the things that matter most: the family name we’re honored to carry forward, and the certificate we keep close. All reminders that heritage is something you live and here at Dugazon, it’s the quiet thread running through everything we do.
